Description

This is a restored late medieval timber-framed building on the west side of High Street, Edenbridge. It dates from the late medieval period and is part of a group with numbers 86 to 96. The building is two storeys high with five irregular windows. It has a high-pitched tiled roof with two returned gables, possibly added later, featuring bargeboards and pendants. The first floor reveals restored timber framing with plaster infill. The ground floor is brick. A small, left-hand extension includes a blocked window seemingly from the 15th century. Modern shop fronts are present at the left and right. Other windows are leaded casements. The central first floor is jettied, with an old brick wall beneath it and a reproduction Tudor studded plank door. The section of number 90 overhangs the Mill Stream and includes a tile-hung gable-ended elevation and a brick slaughterhouse to the rear, featuring a ridge tile roof. A small footbridge crosses the stream, leading to a tannery.
