Description

Yorkshill Farmhouse is a 15th-century or earlier hall house with a largely 18th-century red brick facade. It is a two-storey and attic building with five windows. The roof is steeply hipped and tiled, with small ridge gables, and includes two projecting, offset chimneys. Other features include corbelled brick eaves and two hipped tiled dormers. The first floor has modern two- and three-light casement windows, while the ground floor features three tripartite sash windows arranged under shallow segmental arches, and one modern four-light casement. A modern glazed door is set within a reproduction Georgian doorcase. Internally, original features of the front are visible at the stairhead, including brackets and a bressumer. A hall window with paired cusped arches has been preserved on the landing. A roof truss displays an enormous arched tie beam on large, hollow-chamfered braces, with a crown post dividing two uneven bays of the hall. Matching braces on the responds mirror the crown post. There have been considerable modern extensions to the rear of the building.
