Description
Crippenden Manor House was built in 1607 by Richard Tichborne, who operated a foundry in the parish. The house features brick and tile hung elevations that conceal a framed structure. It has square paned leaded casement windows set in wooden frames, complete with wooden mullions and transoms. The building is irregular in shape, with half hipped gable ends, and consists of two storeys with attic windows. There have been modern restorations and additions to the property. The front entrance is framed by an antique carved oak frame and features double studded doors with a carved headpiece. Above the entrance, there is an ornamental carved oak frieze and plaster infilling on either side of the door, which is flanked by vertical half timbering (modern restoration). The east elevation has a brick base with stone mullioned and transomed windows, and the tile hanging extends up two storeys with guttered eaves. The roof is hip ridge tiled and includes tall Tudor coupled stacks.
