Description
Ockhams Old House is a 16th-century timber-framed building that was restored and extended by Baillie Scott, who lived here. The north front features the original two-storey structure with three windows on the right. It has a high-pitched tiled roof with a compound ridge stack. The first floor is now weatherboarded, while the ground floor is made of red brick with some blue headers. There are various 19th-century and modern casement windows. The right return displays exposed timber framing. The central section, added by Baillie Scott, is in red brick with some blue headers and contains a drawing room styled in the 18th century. There is a modern but appropriately designed left extension, which is tile-hung above and brick below, featuring a returned gable end that balances a similar gable on the right. Inside the older part, there is much exposed timber, an inglenook fireplace, and old plank floors.
