Description

Probably dating from the 16th century, Shernden is a timber-framed house with later additions from several periods. The garden front, now faced with painted brick, is two storeys high with two windows, and has an 18th-century appearance beneath a hipped tiled roof. It features 19th-century sash windows and modern casements, all set within segmental arches. A 19th-century extension is situated to the right, with a modern lean-to beyond. A further addition to the left is probably from the 18th century, with a modern section beyond. The original part of the house presents as a projecting central bay under a gable now half-hipped, centrally positioned on the entrance front. Visible timber framing with plaster infill is above, while brickwork is below. Inside, there is an inglenook fireplace and extensive exposed timber.
