Description

South Lodge is a house that largely dates from the 19th century, but incorporates elements of a late 16th-century house with 17th-century additions. It is two storeys and has an attic, with three windows. The roof is very steeply pitched and tiled, with a chimney at the left end. The base is made of old, narrow brickwork, and the first floor is tile-hung, while the ground floor is brick. The windows are 19th-century casements with mullions and transoms. There are two 18th-century pedimented dormers, with 19th-century casements in them. A half-timbered, two-storey gabled porch projection sits centrally. The rear elevation is irregular, showing a projecting, gabled central section and various lean-to and gabled projections. Inside, there is a significant amount of exposed timber, including a 17th-century staircase with replaced balusters and old plank floors. Some doors have a Gothic style, with pointed heads.
