Description
The well house with rustic seat was built between 1810 and 1830 by William Wells. It is an octagonal structure made of rustic poles, with a roof covered in shingles, resting on a stock brick plinth adorned with red and black tiles. Three sides feature a framework of rustic branches, with entrances on three sides, while the remaining two sides have benches with backs made of vertical planks and thin poles shaped in Gothic styles, featuring a scalloped pattern along the edge of the seat. The roof is boarded and has five large pendants. At the center, there is a spring with a fountain lined in tiles, topped with stone rockery. This well house is one of several garden features on the former Redleaf estate, which is listed on the English Heritage Register of Historic Parks and Gardens for Kent.
