Description
17 High Street is a 17th century building that was originally an inn but is now divided into three houses. It features a timber-framed structure with a façade of two bays, one of which is a large centre projecting gable that has fishscale tile-hanging on the first floor. The first floor of this gable overhangs, supported by plain tile-hanging wings on either side. The roof has a continuous ridge tile and is half-hipped to the left, with a ridge stack positioned to the left of the centre gable. The ground floor is made of painted brick and includes a plain boarded cottage door. To the left of the door is a small square window in a moulded frame, and to the right is a large square-paned casement window. There is also a square projecting bay on the extreme right with a square-paned window. The first-floor overhang features a plastered soffit and is adorned with plain tile-hanging that includes three sets of mullioned lattice casements, with two small square windows flanking the centre casement. The left casement has painted wooden arched headpieces and a centre moulded mullion. This building is part of a group with Nos 13 and 15.
