Description
Lilac Cottage and the cottages adjacent on either side are picturesque buildings dated 1867, likely designed by George Devey. This 19th-century attempt to create three cottages resembling a Wealden house features two storeys and an attic, with three windows. The high-pitched tiled roof is adorned with decorative ridge stacks. The end bays have returned gables that slightly project, while the recessed centre has overhanging eaves supported on arch braces. The first floor is half-timbered with plaster filling, some of which is decorated, and the end bays are tile hung. The ground floor is constructed of random rubble with dressed stone quoins, window transoms, and mullions. The doors feature chamfered Tudor arches, with one located at the front and another on the right return.
