Description
The Church of Saint Mary is a Grade I listed building located on Fawkham Road. It features a Norman nave and chancel, adorned with Decorated windows. At the west end of the nave, there is a 16th-century octagonal weatherboarded bell turret topped with a shingled spire. The vestry to the north and the south porch were added in the 19th century. The nave and chancel are now rendered, with stone window surrounds. Inside, there are bellcote supports made of four posts, which are braced at the top with pierced spandrels. A 14th-century cusped arch is located in the south wall of the nave, alongside an earlier arch in the north wall of the chancel. There is also a 14th-century double piscina featuring cusped Y-tracery. A 13th-century wall painting depicting Christ in Majesty can be found in the nave, along with some medieval stained glass fragments in the south window of the chancel. Additionally, there is a hanging monument dedicated to John Walter, who died in 1625.
