Description
Cross House is a 17th century or earlier timber-framed building located on Fawkham Valley Road. Its name likely comes from a village cross that stood nearby. It is believed to have served as the Dower House for Pennis House. The building has been refaced with red brick on the ground floor and is tile hung above, topped with a tiled roof. It is two storeys high and features three casement windows. In the center, there is a two-storeyed gable projection that contains a porch on the ground floor, with the first floor slightly oversailing. The doorcase has a moulded architrave surround, a low rectangular fanlight, and a six-panel iron-studded door. The south gable end is stuccoed and includes a buttress in the south-west corner of the ground floor. There is a modern addition at the back. Inside, the house has early 18th century panelling and inglenook fireplaces.
