Description
Park Farmhouse is a 2-storey building dating from 1703, originally featuring 5 windows. In the 19th century, it was altered to include wide, single side windows, although the original centre window on the first floor remains, showcasing a cut, carved gauged brick arch. The house has a hipped tiled roof with end chimneys and a 19th-century hipped tiled dormer. The exterior is made of red brick with a pattern of blue headers, except where old window openings have been filled with plain red brick. A first-floor band runs along the sides and back, though it has mostly been removed from the front. The building has a coursed rubble plinth, red brick quoins, and coping. On the sides, there are wide sash windows set under segmental arches. Above the centre window on the first floor, there is a fire insurance sign, and below it, a stone plaque reads: "This farmhouse was built by Thomas Lord Dacre, Earl of Sussex, in the year 1703." A modern pent porch leads to an early 19th-century 6-panel door within an old moulded wood frame. Inside, there is a late 17th-century staircase featuring urn-turned balusters, square newels, a solid string, and a wide handrail, which is said to have been brought from Chevening Park. Park Farm, along with its outbuildings and wall, forms a group with the farmhouse.
