Description

These are a range of two-storey cottages dating to the 16th century, originally part of a hall house. They were restored in the 19th century. The cottages have high-pitched tiled roofs, with one window each except for number 4, which has two windows on the ground floor. The first floor of some cottages has exposed timber framing with plaster infill. Numbers 2 and 4 feature an overhanging first floor with exposed joists and curved brackets. Number 3 has a two-storey projecting canted bay. The ground floor is of 19th-century red brick with black bands. The windows are a mix of 19th and 20th-century casements. The doors are mostly half-glazed 19th-century, although number 1 has a door of two large boarded panels. Alms Row Cottages (numbers 1 to 10) and Haynes Cottages (numbers 1 to 4) are designated as a group.
