Description
Southdown Cottage is an early 18th century cottage with a two-storey front, originally featuring two windows. The cottage has two tiled gable ends of differing widths and a tiled roof. The first floor is painted brick, while the ground floor is of coursed rubble with red brick dressings. Modern square-paned casement windows are set under shallow segmental brick arches. A central pair of glazed double doors is set within a moulded frame. A later projecting porch, with a panelled soffit, is supported by thin columns, an entablature, and a modillioned cornice. Southdown Cottage forms a group with The Post Office, Nos 1 to 9 (Park Place Cottages), Glencot, Yew Tree Cottage, Tanners Cottage, Southdown House, its garden wall and the surrounding landscape.
