Description

Weir Cottage is a house located in the grounds of Leeds Castle, dating from the early 19th century with later 19th-century additions. The building features a chequered pattern of red and grey brick and has a plain tile roof. It is a double-depth structure with two storeys. The cottage has a stone plinth, which was later built out in brick in the 20th century. It has a plat band in English bond and a dentilled brick eaves cornice. The roof is hipped at both the front and rear, giving the front a conical appearance. There is a red brick stack at the top of the front hip and another stack towards the left at the rear.

The front of the cottage has a regular three-window arrangement, consisting of two recessed glazing-bar sashes with broad flat glazing bars and a blind central window, all featuring plain brick voussoirs. The central entrance is a half-glazed door with a six-light window area, also with broad glazing bars. Each side of the cottage has one blocked window on both floors, each with segmental heads.

There is a later 19th-century two-storey addition built into the hill, constructed with the same materials and now under the same roof, which also has a dentilled brick eaves cornice. Additionally, there are various single-storey outbuildings on the property. The interior of the cottage has not been inspected.
