Description
Elnothington House is a house dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features a slate roof. The building has two storeys, attics, and a cellar, topped with a plain parapet above a brick band and a gambrel roof. There are red brick gable end stacks and three flat-roofed dormers. The front has a regular arrangement of three windows, consisting of two recessed 16-pane sashes and a central round-headed sash, all with rubbed brick voussoirs. The central window has plain imposts. The entrance features a central panelled door with a semi-circular fanlight that has radiating glazing bars, set within a doubly recessed round-headed brick architrave with plain imposts. This door is accessed by six steps with plain handrails. The interior has not been inspected.
Attached to the house are garden walls made of red and grey brick, primarily in header bond. These walls abut the front elevation of the house and run north to enclose the sides of a small front garden, returning west and east to enclose the grounds. The walls include pilaster buttresses and plain brick coping.
