Description

Battel Hall Cottages are located on Burberry Lane in Leeds and date from the early to mid-17th century. Originally likely one house that has been subdivided internally, it now functions as a row of houses. The cottages are timber framed with brick nogging, much of which is original, and feature a plain tile roof. The building has a lobby entry plan and stands two storeys high with attics on a stone plinth. The timber framing includes broadly spaced rectangular studding with two panels per storey and short tension braces at each end. The attic jetties out along the front elevation, supported by a renewed bressumer. There is a continuous row of five gables adorned with moulded bargeboards. A central multiple brick ridge stack is present, along with rear stacks at both ends. Each attic gable has one 19th-century glazing-bar light. The fenestration is irregular, consisting of five casements: three with two lights and two with three lights. The central entrance features a ribbed door. To the left, there is an integral timber-framed lean-to with some original brick nogging, and there are short later extensions at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
