Description

Hammonds Cottage is an early 17th-century farmhouse, now used as a house. It is timber framed and originally comprised three bays. The ground floor is built of red and grey brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with exposed principal posts. The first floor and the entire right gable end are weatherboarded. The roof is covered in plain tiles. A gable end jetty is visible on the right-hand side. A brick gable end stack stands to the left. A broad, projecting rear stack is located at the right end bay, constructed of red brick in English bond on a chamfered brick plinth. This stack is flanked by two narrow, integral two-storey brick closets projecting slightly beyond the stack itself, each with a corbelled and moulded brick gable. The stack has a corbelled and moulded brick top, and a small rectangular brick light is situated on the first floor of the right closet. The windows are irregular in placement, with three casements towards the centre and left end; one is a two-light window, and two are single-light windows. A four-light leaded casement is present on the ground floor to the right. A half-glazed door is located to the left of the centre. The interior features exposed timber framing, chamfer-stopped beams, and gunstock-jowled posts.
