Description

These are two cottages, formerly part of a barn and oast houses, located on Vicarage Road in Hunton. The origins of the building date back to the early 17th century, with an addition made in the 19th century. Significant rebuilding took place throughout the 20th century. The rear of the building is constructed of red brick in English bond. The front elevation incorporates reused bricks in various bonding patterns. A timber-framed section, clad in weatherboarding, is located at the right end and features two 19th-century circular brick kilns to the rear. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The building has two brick ridge stacks and two hipped dormers. The arrangement of windows is irregular, with four three-light leaded casements on the brick section. Number 2 has a half-glazed door under a felt canopy to the left of centre, while Number 1 has a similar door to the right of centre. A lean-to with French doors extends from the front of the barn. The interior was not inspected. The building adjoins the south (left) gable end of Hammonds Cottage and is included in the listing for group value.
