Description

Bearsted House is an early 18th-century house, originally listed as Eylesden Court Preparatory School. It is rendered at the front, with painted brick to the sides, and has a hipped plain tile roof. The house has a plinth, quoins, and a modillion eaves cornice. It is two storeys and has an attic with three pedimented dormers, and a brick ridge stack to the left. There are seven windows, with two on each floor to the left blocked and more widely spaced. The first floor has glazing bar sashes with raised panels below. A projecting 19th-century porch is located to the right of the centre, featuring Doric columns supporting an entablature and pediment; it contains a panelled door. Two-storey 18th and 19th-century wings extend to the rear.

The interior includes a delicate early 18th-century staircase, and a panelled and corniced room to the left on the ground floor. A further early 18th-century carved alcove head is located to the left of the stack in a room to the right. The building is marked as Bearsted House on Ordnance Survey maps.
