Description

Forge Cottages comprise a house, now divided into three separate dwellings, dating to the 17th century. The building is timber-framed. The front elevation is pebble-dashed, with applied timber studs on the first floor. The left gable end is brick on the ground floor and tile-hung on the first floor, with the gable above partially pebble-dashed. Exposed arch-braced tie-beams and queen struts to the collar, along with some later decorative bracing, are visible. The roof is covered in plain tiles, with a hipped end on the right. Stacks are located off-centre towards the right, and further stacks are at the rear, behind the dormers. The roof includes two large gabled eaves dormers, one at the right end and one towards the left. The windows are 20th-century casements, and the entrances feature three 20th-century half-glazed doors: one towards the left end, one off-centre towards the right, and one at the right end. The first floor of number 3 and the right section of number 2 are jettied over a 20th-century stone ground floor wall.
