Description

Court Lodge is a farmhouse dating from 1672, with a much older core and alterations from the early to mid-18th century and 19th century. The ground floor features thick stone walls, which may be of medieval origin, while the first floor is constructed of red brick. The facade is rendered, and the building has a plain tile roof. It is double depth within the stone walls and has two storeys. There are four stacks: a small projecting brick stack at the rear of the left gable end, a ridge stack off-centre to the left, a large brick stack at the right gable end, and another at the rear of the right gable end. The fenestration is irregular, consisting of five windows; two glazing-bar sashes at the left end, a very small two-light casement, two juxtaposed sashes with thick glazing bars in the same opening separated by a thick mullion to the left of the ground-floor porch, and two more to the right of the porch. The porch, which is rendered and gabled, features an ogee doorhead and is positioned to the right of centre. The date 1672 is painted on the first floor above the porch. Inside, there are late 17th-century internal partitions and a well staircase with moulded balusters, handrail, and string. A bolection-moulded fireplace is located at the right end of the first floor, along with features from the 18th and 19th centuries. The attic joists are formed from re-used rafters with notched and plain lap-joint matrices.
