Description

The Tabernacle at the Mote Cricket Club is a 19th-century building featuring eclectic timber-framing. The structure has ogee-bracing at the base and vertical studs above, with brick infill arranged in horizontal, vertical, and diagonal patterns. It also includes a timber verandah and a tiled roof with end gablets, along with a brick chimneystack at the rear.

The building has a T-shaped plan, comprising a large front room behind the verandah and a smaller heated rear room. The front, or south-east side, showcases a wooden verandah with a glazed top, supported by six turned columns and attached turned balustrades. Behind the verandah, there are two wooden mullioned and transomed windows, along with a central half-glazed double door that features leaded and coloured lights in the transoms and fielded panels at the base. Each end of the building, north-west and south-east, has a wooden gablet with a trefoil-shaped cutout for ventilation. The front part of each side has one casement window, with additional windows located in the set-back T-wing. The south-east side windows are adorned with curved ornamentation at the top, while the T-wing windows are smaller and fitted with frosted glass. The south-west, or rear side, has a simple central doorcase.

Inside, the large front room boasts a wooden boarded ceiling with two quatrefoil-shaped cutouts for ventilation. The smaller rear room features a fireplace with a bracketed shelf.
