Description

The Bridge House is a house located on the south side of High Street in Marden, dating from the 17th century or earlier, with a facade from the 19th century. It is likely timber framed and rendered, with the rear half of the right gable end being tile-hung. The building has a plain tile roof and stands two storeys tall. It features a low rendered plinth and paired Ionic modillions at the flat eaves soffits, which end in a moulded wooden eaves cornice. The roof is hipped to the left, with the hip returning to the rear and half-hipped to the right.

There is a multiple red and grey brick ridge stack towards the left end, although the datestone was illegible at the time of re-survey. A projecting brick stack is located at the right gable end. The front of the house has a regular arrangement of four windows, which are rectangular two-light casements with Gothick glazing bars and squared moulded hoodmoulds; one window is positioned to the left and two to the right of the stack, with a smaller window beneath the stack. The ground floor has similar windows. To the left end, there is a door with flush panels and a segmental head, which also has a hoodmould. Another similar door, also with a hoodmould, is located under a trellised segmental-headed porch beneath the stack. A long rear return wing extends to the left, featuring Gothick casements and a projecting brick stack on the long right side, with the roof three-quarters hipped to the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
