Description

CHURCH ROAD TQ 75 SE OTHAM (West Side) 3/217 Church House GV II House, formerly cottages, now house. C16 or earlier, restored in C20. Timber-framed, with plaster infilling. Plain tile roof. 6 timber-framed bays; left end bay, and possibly second from left, added. 2 storeys. Stone plinth, higher under left end bay. Gable end jetty to right. Broadly- spaced close-studding. Higher midrail to third bay from right. Second bay from right has intermediate rail towards base of each storey. 5 arch-braces, asymmetrically placed. Hipped roof. Multiple brick ridge stack to right end of third bay from right. Irregular fenestration of 10 windows. 8 small single-light casements, one 3-light diamond mullion window to left end bay, and one tall 7-light diamond mullion window between eaves and intermediate rail of second bay from right. Similar 6-light window under it, between midrail and intermediate rail of ground floor. Ribbed door in hollow-chamfered 4-centred arched architrave with hollow spandrels, to left end of third bay from right. Ribbed door to centre of fifth bay from right. Interior not inspected. Marked on O.S. map as Church Cottages.
