Description
This is a mid-18th century threshing barn, later used as stabling, situated northwest of Redpit. The barn is timber-framed with weatherboarding over a brick base, featuring a hipped roof to the south and a half-hipped roof to the north, now covered in corrugated iron. Originally three bays, it was extended to the south, likely for cart storage. The west side has a pair of cart doors fitted with original pintle hinges; the east side has a lower pair of double doors and a stable door, also with pintle hinges. Inside, the wall frame includes a midrail and diagonal tension braces, with jowled upright posts. The roof structure comprises staggered purlins and original rafters. Notably, a low horizontal plank partition with diagonal braces on either side of the threshing floor remains, a rare survival. This partition has been raised to the north to create a full-height partition for stabling. A floor was inserted in the central bay above the tie beam, and 20th-century stall partitions have been added to the south.
