Description

Homewell House is a late 18th-century farmhouse. The front is constructed of chequered red and grey brick to the ground floor, with the first floor tile-hung. The rear wall is timber-framed, and the roof is covered with plain tiles. The building has two bays, the right-hand bay being slightly shorter. It stands on a galletted stone plinth and has a cellar. A plain wooden eaves band runs around the building. There are projecting stacks to the left and a gable end stack to the right, along with two hipped dormers. The front has a regular three-window arrangement with two 12-pane and a central 8-pane sash windows on the first floor, and two 12-pane sashes on the ground floor. The ground floor windows have shallow moulded cornices to all windows and formerly had hinged wooden shutters. A central panelled door is set within a 20th-century flat-roofed brick porch. A slightly later lean-to addition extends from the rear, with its own stack. Two bricks are dated J.S. 1786, and two are initialled J.B. and W.F.
