Description
Kelsham Farmhouse is a timber-framed farmhouse dating to the late 16th or early 17th century, with a 17th-century addition to the left. The building has a lobby-entry plan consisting of three timber-framed bays, including a stack bay, with a two-bay addition to the left. It is two storeys high with a garret. The right section has close-studded timbering, with a dropped tie-beam. The left section features broadly-spaced timber studs. A continuous jetty extends from the right section, supported by solid brackets and a moulded bressumer. The left section is unjettied. The roof is three-quarters hipped. A multiple brick ridge stack is located in the centre of the right section. The fenestration is irregular, with five casement windows—one 3-light window to each principal bay, and one 2-light window under the stack. The right section formerly had a deep central window to each outer bay, flanked by frieze windows under the eaves. Mortices on the ground floor indicate a rectangular bay window was once present in each outer bay of the right section’s ground-floor wall, along with frieze windows. The front door consists of two fielded panels with a rectangular 3-light fanlight, located under the stack. An open lean-to shelter is situated at the right gable end. A rear lean-to extends from the right side, and a rear wing was built in 1930 on the left. The interior features exposed timber framing.
