Description
Hayton Manor is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions from the 18th century. The front range is constructed of red and grey brick in Flemish bond, while the rear range features red and grey brick in an irregular bond on the long left side, with the first floor of the long right side clad in 20th-century wooden shingling. The roofs are covered with plain tiles. The building has a short 17th-century range and a double-depth 18th-century range, possibly with an earlier core, arranged at right angles to form a T plan. The 18th-century range, which serves as the entrance front, is two storeys high with a hipped roof that has hips returning. It features a central brick ridge stack and a regular five-window front of recessed 12-pane sashes arranged in a 2:1:2 pattern, with segmental heads over the ground-floor windows. There is a panelled door located within a gabled 19th-century brick porch under the stack. The rear range, dating from the 17th century, has two storeys and a basement, standing on a galleted stone plinth, with a plat band and projecting eaves that are higher than those of the front range, supported by exposed horizontal sprockets. It has a hipped roof at the gable end and a central brick ridge stack, with three windows—two of which are blind and one is from the 20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
