Description
Challow Mead is a farmhouse, now a house, dating to the 17th century, with a front range added in the mid-18th century. It is constructed of colourwashed brick with an old tile roof and brick stacks, forming an L-shaped plan. The two-storey, three-window front has a 20th-century door. Segmental arches top the early 20th-century two-light casement windows and a blind window above the door. A storey band runs along the front. The gabled roof has a large rear lateral stack.
To the rear right is a one-and-a-half-storey, four-window range with rendered brickwork over an original timber frame, a gabled old tile roof, and a brick ridge stack. This section features a 20th-century door, early 20th-century casements, and two gabled dormers. An outshut with a gabled dormer is located to the left side.
The interior of the front range features a mid-18th century dog-leg staircase with turned balusters on an open string. The rear range, dating to the 17th century, contains chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and joists. The first floor has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest.
