Description

Coppice Leaze Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century, located on the West side of Silver Lane in West Challow. A graffito dated 1737 is visible on the brickwork on the right-hand side. The farmhouse is constructed of flared header bond brick with red brick quoins and dressings, and has an old tile roof, with brick stacks. It has an L-shaped layout and two storeys with an attic, originally featuring a five-window range, now a three-window range. A six-panelled door and a late 18th-century ribbed door, both within moulded wood architraves, are framed by segmental header arches. A wide, late 18th-century porch supported by Doric columns stands at the front. Late 18th-century sash windows are also topped with segmental header arches. A chamfered brick cornice runs along the top of the building. A 20th-century dormer has been added to the roof. The interior includes mid-18th-century two-panelled doors, chamfered and stopped spine beams, and a panelled room with a moulded cornice to the left. A two-storey, three-window range wing in similar materials and style extends to the rear right. To the rear right, a mid-18th-century wall of Flemish bond brick with flared headers and stone coping curves around the garden and adjoins the front wall. Short walls with pyramidal coping to piers are attached to either side of the front wall. A bread oven projection is visible on the right end stack.
