Description
Stream Cottage and Grove Bridge Cottage is a house, now a row of houses, dating from the 17th century or earlier, with a later 17th-century addition on the left and a 19th-century facade. The building is timber framed, with the ground floor clad in red brick laid in Flemish bond, which has been painted on Stream Cottage. The ground floor of the right gable end and the left addition is made of stone, while the first floor is tile-hung. There are ogee tension braces on the first floor of the loft gable end. The roof is plain tiled. The main range has a narrow addition to the left and consists of two storeys. There is a low rendered plinth on the left and a higher stone plinth on the right of the stack. The right gable end was formerly jettied. The roof is hipped on both the left and right sides, with a lower ridge on the left addition, and the main roof hipped down to it. Gablets are present on the main range. A small brick stack is located at the center of the left addition, and there is a multiple brick ridge stack to the right of the center of the main range. The fenestration is irregular, featuring four casements on the main range (two three-light and two two-light) and none on the addition. There is a half-glazed door towards the left end of the main range for Stream Cottage and a panelled door with two top lights under the right stack for Grove Bridge Cottage, both of which have wooden porches. A short rear wing is present on the right, along with a rear lean-to. The interior has not been inspected.
