Description

Palm Tree Cottage is a house that was originally part of a row of houses, dating from the 17th century, with a possible slightly later 17th-century addition on the left end. The building is timber-framed, featuring rendered infilling on the main range and painted brick infilling on the addition. It has a plain tile roof and consists of approximately three timber-framed bays, including a narrow central stack bay, with a single-bay addition to the left. The cottage stands two storeys high on a stone plinth and has a continuous jetty supported by shaped brackets on the main range. The left end bay's front face aligns with the first floor of the main range, and it has a jetty on the left gable end. The studding is broadly spaced, and each outer bay of the main range has a pair of ogee tension braces. The roof is hipped with gablets, and the eaves of the left end bay project further than those of the main range. There is a slender brick stack rising from the front eaves of the left end bay and a brick ridge stack at the centre of the main range. The cottage features irregular fenestration with four casements: three three-light casements on the main range and one single-light casement on the left end bay. There is a panelled door at the left end of the main range and a boarded door at the right end. A rear lean-to is also present. The interior has not been inspected.
