Description
Port Lympne North Lodge, wall and gate pier is a gate lodge built around 1912, likely designed by Sir Herbert Baker for Sir Philip Sassoon. The structure is made of red brick and features a plain tile roof. It is 1½ storeys tall, sitting on a low brick plinth. The brickwork is indented at the corners to mimic rusticated quoins, and the gables are shaped with brick copings. A central brick ridge stack has a moulded cornice. Each gable end contains one two-light casement window on each floor, with moulded brick hoodmoulds; the upper window's hoodmould is shaped to suggest a triangular pediment, while the lower window's is horizontal. The elevation facing the drive has two two-light casement windows on the ground floor, also with horizontal hoodmoulds. There is a central half-glazed door to the drive, set within a rectangular bolection-moulded stone architrave that features a keystone and a segmental pediment on consoles. The initials "P.S." are displayed on the gable ends. A wall with a dipped top extends south from the east gable end to a brick gate-pier, which has rusticated brick quoins and a moulded brick plinth and cornice, topped with a stone pineapple. The interior has not been inspected.
