Description
The pump house, built in the early 20th century by Lorimer, is a disused structure located in Lympne. It is constructed from small blocks of uncoursed stone with lightly vermiculated stone dressings and features a concrete roof. The building is rectangular and stands two storeys high, with slightly battered walls, rounded corners, and a plain stone-coped parapet. The flat roof has a central rectangular opening, and there are no windows on the first floor. The ground floor has a regular two-window front, with splayed and segmental-headed openings that have wooden architraves, though the fixtures have been removed. Each side elevation features a similar ground-floor window towards the front. The central doorway has splayed jambs and a segmental head that is lower than the window heads, but the door has been removed. There is a smaller ground-floor doorway towards the rear of the left side elevation and a first-floor doorway towards the rear of the right side elevation, accessed by 18 external stone steps with an iron handrail. The interior has no remaining fittings and features a concrete ceiling on the ground floor. This pump house formerly served Lympne Castle.
