Description
The Town Hall, built in 1702, features an open arcade and was refaced in the early 19th century, with the ground floor constructed in 1884. The building has two storeys and is covered in stucco. The end window bays project slightly. A parapet sits atop the building, featuring a high ornamental panel with a cartouche and a pediment above it. There is a cornice above the ground floor. On the first floor, there are five round-headed windows with intact glazing bars. The ground floor has two large segmental-headed windows, which are missing glazing bars, and three doorways. The central doorway is framed by a moulded architrave and has a broken pediment supported by brackets, while the outer doorways feature pilasters, triangular pediments, and semi-circular fanlights, all three with six-panelled doors that are partially glazed. Inside, there is panelling. Additionally, embedded in the wall on the right side is a late 18th to early 19th century cast iron naval cannon. The Town Hall is part of a group with Nos 25 to 43 (odd).
