Description
River House is an L-shaped house from the 18th century, although its exterior appears to cover a 15th-century interior. The building has three storeys with two windows facing the street and five windows facing the garden. The north-east front features painted brick on the ground floor, with stucco above. There is a string course above the ground floor, a parapet, and a plain tiled roof. The windows retain their glazing bars. The doorway in the west wing is flanked by engaged columns and features a projecting cornice, a moulded frieze, and a six-panel fielded door with panelled sides that match the door. River House is part of a group that includes Nos 47 to 57 (odd) and the boundary wall to No 57, along with Nos 29 to 35 (odd) and the boundary wall on Harnet Street, and No 38 Bowling Street.
