Description
This is a row of cottages and a small chapel, dating from the late 18th century and early 19th century. The building is constructed of red brick with a plain tiled roof. Nos. 2 to 5 are two storeys high, featuring four chimney stacks. The first floor has four glazing bar sash windows alternating with three blank window spaces. The ground floor has four glazing bar sash windows and four doorways with round heads. Nos. 2 to 5 have ribbed and stud doors. No. 1 is an early 19th century addition with a hipped roof, two glazing bar sashes on the first floor and one on the ground floor, alongside a ribbed and stud door with a traceried fanlight to the left. The chapel, located at the right end, was built as a Wesleyan chapel and is dated 1822, with the inscription "Providence Chapel" above the entrance. The chapel has two blank window spaces and a central glazing bar sash window on the first floor, and a central boarded door within a double rebated surround on the ground floor. The earlier portion of the cottage row is linked to the construction of the Eastry Workhouse.
