Description

Flintstone Cottage is a house dating from the 16th century, substantially refronted in the early 18th century. It is timber-framed and now clad in red brick, with a plain tiled roof. The house has two storeys and a basement, and stands on a plinth with a plat band. The hipped roof has stacks rebuilt at the left end and projecting and offset at the right end. The facade has a regular arrangement of three wooden casement windows on the first floor and two metal casement windows on the ground floor, all with segmental heads. A central boarded door is covered by a raking hood, and there is a basement opening to the left.

Inside, the original timber frame is visible in the rear wall, within a 20th-century extension. There is plank and muntin panelling in the central passageway and main rooms, along with raised and fielded panelled doors. A newel staircase and inglenook fireplaces are present, one with a half-circular plan. The cellar is lined with flint and rubble stone, and contains a main floor joist reused from the original timber-framed building, featuring good quality cyma chamfering and a reeded soffit.
