Description
Coastguard Cottages, now a private row of houses, were built in 1884. The cottages are roughcast with slate roofs, and the south end elevation is finished in corrugated sheet cladding. The main range is two storeys high, featuring pilaster quoins, brick corbelled eaves, and two gables that break the eaves line. There are three large square chimney stacks arranged from left to right. The front has seven two-light mullioned windows, with the two central windows raised in the gables and anchor motifs above them. On the ground floor, there are six mullioned windows and panelled doors located in gabled porches on either side. A moulded semi-circular arch in the centre leads to a rear courtyard, which has a datestone from 1884 above it. The cottages are linked to a D-shaped block on the right by a slate and wood porch or bridge. This three-storey block has a semi-circular end that projects forward, featuring three, four, and two-light mullioned windows on the front, with irregular fenestration on the rear.
