Description

The Royal Exchange is an early 19th-century building. It is a three-storey structure, originally pebble-dashed and colour-washed. It has a parapet with a stone coping that curves centrally. A moulded stone cornice runs below the second floor. The second floor features three sash windows with intact glazing bars. The first floor has two three-light canted bays with panels beneath them, while the ground floor has two three-light sash windows. Rusticated pilasters extend through two storeys on either side of the building. The doorcase is distinguished by a curved pediment with modillions, brackets, rusticated reveals, and a rectangular fanlight. The building forms a group with numbers 183 to 199 (odd).
