Description

This is an 18th-century building on Mercery Lane, originally part of number 38 Burgate. It is three storeys high and built of painted brick, with a stone coping. A dormer is present on the roof. The building has a rounded corner. It features three sash windows with intact glazing bars, set within moulded architraves, and has brick arches and stone sills. A later 19th-century wooden shop front with panelled risers is also present. Number 16 forms a group with numbers 1 to 8A (consecutive), numbers 10 to 16 (consecutive), and numbers 38 to 44 (consecutive) on Burgate, as well as numbers 1 to 9 (consecutive) on Butchery Lane. It also forms a grouped setting with numbers 10 to 16 (consecutive) and numbers 6A & 7 The Parade.
