Description

38A Burgate is a timber-framed building that was refaced in the 18th century. It has three storeys and is constructed of painted brick with a tiled roof and a bracket cornice. The building features one cambered sash window with intact glazing bars, a stringcourse, and a keystone. There is a notable 18th-century shopfront with a slightly curved bow, and the right-hand doorcase includes a rectangular fanlight, accessed by two steps. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 38 to 44 and Nos 1 to 9 Butchery Lane, as well as Nos 1 to 8A and Nos 10 to 16 Mercery Lane.
