Description

The ducking stool located in the grounds of No. 1 St Peter's Street is a mostly restored structure dating back to its last use in 1809. It consists of a wooden beam with a chair at the end. The stool features the inscription, "Unfaithful wives beware, also butchers, bakers, brewers, apothecaries, and all who give short measure." It is listed for its sociological interest.
