Description
Poor Priests Hospital, founded in 1217 and rebuilt in 1373, has undergone alterations and expansions since its original construction. The original part of the building is L-shaped and features two gables on the east side. It is constructed of flint with stone quoins and a stone base. There is one 14th-century window in the south gable, which has two cinquefoil-headed lights and a quatrefoil above it, while the other windows are modern.
To the south of the gable, there is a two-storey wing with six windows, where 18th-century sash windows with intact glazing bars have been added. This wing also includes a medieval doorway with a four-centred arch. The two southernmost window bays of this wing are made of red brick with gables above, while the rest is flint with stone window dressings. The flint portion appears to be entirely 18th-century on the outside, except for the pointed doorway. The brick section is timber-framed with brick infilling and has an overhanging first floor at the back.
