Description

No. 5 West Place is a cottage, which was formerly two cottages, and was derelict at the time of survey. It dates from around 1820 and is constructed of red brick, with the front rendered to imitate masonry and a hipped roof covered in old tiles. The building has two storeys and features three windows with 12-pane sash windows set in reveals. The right side has a doorcase with a semi-circular fanlight above a two-panelled door. An elaborate early 19th-century doorknocker with an antique head is also present. The left side has a plain doorcase with a four flush-panelled door. Inside, the ground floor includes a wooden fireplace, a dado rail, and a straight flight staircase.
