Description

The Shakespeare Inn, located at 5 Butchery Lane, is a building that dates from the medieval period and later. It is two storeys high and constructed of painted brick, featuring a Victorian gable. The front has one sash window with intact glazing bars set in a moulded architrave, along with a modern shopfront. The rear elevation is three storeys tall and tile-hung, with two sash windows that have verticals only. The ground floor includes one canted bay window and one double-hung sash window. The Shakespeare Inn is part of a group of buildings that includes Nos 1 to 9 and Nos 38 to 44 Burgate, as well as Nos 1 to 8A and Nos 10 to 16 Mercery Lane.
