Description
Lily Vale Farmhouse is a house that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with later cladding from the 18th century and an extension added in the late 20th century. The building is timber framed and clad with ragstone, red and blue brick, and tile hanging, featuring plain tiled roofs. The original layout is a lobby entry, or hall house plan, which has been extended to form an L-shape, now including a second 20th-century wing that creates a rectangular ground plan.
The oldest part of the farmhouse is two storeys high with an attic, built on a ragstone base. It has a hipped roof with gablets, three hipped dormers, and a stack at the rear. The first floor features three light, two light, and one light leaded wooden casements, while the ground floor has two glazed doors and a wooden casement. The entrance front includes the hip end of the additional wing and the 20th-century wing, showcasing a six-panelled door with a flat hood and sidelights, along with a wooden casement above and a bay window to the left in the 20th-century wing.
Inside, the full frame is visible, with large beams and posts in the main range, featuring an arched braced frame and concave profile gunstock jowls on the main posts. The roof has clasped purlins with windbraces, which may have been altered when the separately framed return wing was added; this wing also has a clasped purlin roof and includes a diamond set wooden mullioned window with shutter grooves, now located internally. Other window openings also have shutter grooves. The interior features inglenooks and ceiling beams in the kitchen with meat hooks.
