Description

This is a house, originally likely built in the 15th or early 16th century, with a significantly altered appearance over the centuries. It was later remodelled in the mid-18th century, with a further addition to the rear in the early 19th century, and more recently altered in the 20th century. The house is timber framed and was originally constructed with a red and grey brick facade in Flemish bond. The right return elevation is of red brick in English bond. It has a plain tile roof, a hipped roof with a goblet feature on the right side, a brick ridge stack to the left of centre, and a rear brick stack to the right end bay. The front elevation has an irregular pattern of three casement windows; one three-light window to the left end and two 20th-century replacements. Ground-floor windows have segmental arches, with narrow raised brick hoodmoulds over those on the right and left. There are various entrance doors: a boarded door in a lean-to to the left, a ribbed door with a flat bracketed hood under the stack to number 5, a half-glazed door to the right of centre for number 6, and a half-glazed door within a brick porch for number 7, positioned to the right side of the rear wing. A brick lean-to extends from the left side. A short rear wing extends to the right, with a lower ridge, and has been extended further to the rear by an early 19th-century addition, characterised by channelled render, a slate roof, and a sixteen-pane sash window on each floor. A datestone inscribed "WM" is located towards the centre of the front elevation. The interior, only partially inspected, reveals exposed timber framing. The left end bay was formerly jettied to the front and to the left gable end.
