Description

The buildings at 4 and 6 West Cross date to the late 18th century and early to mid-19th century, and are part of a group with numbers 138 to 142 on the High Street. Number 4 is a three-storey building with a timber frame faced with alternating bands of plain and curved tiles. It has a hipped tiled roof with a bracket eaves cornice and two sash windows with intact glazing bars set within moulded architraves. A later shopfront has been added. Number 6 is also three storeys, with the eastern two-thirds constructed of red brick, and the western third with a tile-hung, hipped slate roof. It has three sash windows with intact glazing bars, with cambered heads or head linings to the first-floor windows. A later shopfront is present. The buildings are included for group value.
